This is a quick post to announce the launch of a pet project of mine that I’ve been wanting to get off the ground for a while now.
following your passion
As a web designer, I am passionate about what I do. So much so, that I decided to create my own business to allow me to do it on my own terms. As anybody who works for themselves can attest, with great freedom and love of what you do, comes a whole heck of a lot of work. But when it’s your passion, somehow that doesn’t matter.
Because of the nature of what I do, I meet a lot of small business owners – many of whom are just starting out themselves and are looking for a web presence. I kinda get to be in on the birth of their dream. And that is probably what gets me more psyched up about my job than anything else.
finding community and collaboration
I love seeing somebody make that big first step to follow their passion and it’s a thrill to be a little part of it. But something I’ve noticed over the past couple of years is just how thirsty all of us small business owners and freelancers are for information and shared experiences. I’ve had so many client meetings where we start out to talk about their web needs and the discussions turn into how we each handle so many of the day to day challenges of running our own businesses.
Often times when we start out on our own, we’re running lean and mean. A one person shop… maybe two… or maybe just you and your dog. We don’t always have the opportunity to have that banter and discussion you get when you work with a larger group of people. So you crave that interaction and need ways to engage with people having similar experiences.
introducing some fresh voices
One of my little dreams is to be able to facilitate that kind of environment for small business owners and freelancers. That’s something that can turn into a huge project but I’m just going to start out small. This blog is a means to do that – foster a little community of like minded entrepreneurs out there trying to carve out their little niche in the world.
So, I’m very pleased to announce that we are going to be opening up the Fine Lime Designs Small Business Blog to some guest writers over the coming months!!
We’ve got a great lineup of people on tap within a wide range of fields and all at different levels of experience and different stages in their businesses. Some will be contributing their own articles and some will be interviewed by us. All of them are passionate about what they do and it’s infectious. I hope that you’ll enjoy their different points of view and that you’ll be partly inspired, partly motivated and learn something new from all of them – I sure know I have!
so who’s up first?
Our first guest blogger will be on the scene tomorrow – Mat Neale, the owner of guideddiscovery.ca, a boutique outdoor adventure company that specializes in GPS instruction, corporate team building events and recreational geocaching adventures. He’s worked with some great clients including Intrawest and Pattison Outdoor Advertising. Mat’s got a unique voice and a great point of view. I hope you enjoy his contribution!
