I had stuff to pass on to you all this morning… I swear I did.
But here’s the thing:
I didn’t write any of it down. And I’m coming to see that if I don’t write things down, they tend to float out of my head to who knows where…
On the other hand, this morning, I found a list of odd names like “chocolate box”, “smart frocks”, and “a yummy apology” that I’d written down early in the week. It took me ten minutes to figure out what on earth they all meant! Turns out they were a list of potential font names for a client project. (I know… what a fun project where you’re looking at fonts called “chocolate box” and “smart frocks”!)
So both episodes have got me thinking about the best ways to keep track of things. I’d be curious to know how all of you keep tabs on all the things you need to do or remember? Are you an electronic task keeper? Pen and paper? What works for you?
And next week, I promise, I will write things down! Have a great weekend!
For appointments and events, I write notes in my monthly and weekly planner.
For small tasks, I use slips of paper or sticky notes – once the task is complete (in theory), I either recycle or shred the paper.
I am still trying to find an optimal task reminder solution. Outlook Tasks only lasted about a day and papers sometimes get lost in the shuffle. Oh, and don’t even suggest Google Calendar. I love GC for my personal calendar, or for clubs I’m part of, but for work it just doesn’t work for me. I don’t have enough time to update it between taking field trip bookings (but, sssh, please don’t tell my coworker – he’s over the moon for GC!).
If you find something that works, let me know!
Hey Jamie, I have to confess, my task list is written out on old fashioned paper. Grid paper where I can make a checkbox to check things off.
But I’m a slave to MS Outlook for appointments, mail and contacts – it’s the only thing that keeps me from moving to my Mac for everything. I love it and it syncs with my blackberry nice and neat!
And I use index cards for things I want to write down for short term stuff. Not sure any of it’s perfect but it seems to work for me
